This morning I met with Cllr Charlie Coats and Cllr Nick Cook, Chair and Vice Chair of Highnam Parish Council.
Amongst other issues, we discussed the recent flooding of the A417 at Maisemore and Gloucestershire County Council’s (GCC) recent budget decision. GCC have allocated £114,000 to commission consultants to develop a business case for future funding opportunities for the A417.
I have been dealing with a few pieces of casework recently, relating to planning applications in and around Highnam, and it was useful to take the time to visit these sites for myself with members of the Parish Council and discuss the community impact with them.
I also got an opportunity to visit the Highnam Community Centre and the newly refurbished “Old School.” The Old School, which was open between 1850 and 1981, has had false ceilings removed, the interior refurbished and the roof repaired, and is now available to hire for events and groups. The money for the refurbishment came partly from the Government’s village hall improvement scheme, together with some smaller local contributions.
